06.11.2007
Poland’s Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) have detained Former MP and Civic Platform (PO) member, Beata Sawicka. After her deputy’s immunity expired on Monday, she was officially charged with corruption and spent the night in the police detention centre.

The proceedings are to continue on Tuesday. After that the public prosecutor’s office is to decide whether to move for her arrest.

During the last week of the election campaign CBA released an operational recording from a ‘sting’ operation showing Sawicka taking a bribe for setting up a tender for a 2 hectare property in the seaside town of Hel, northern Poland.

The former MP answered with a press conference during which she revealed that the CBA officer from whom she was set up to take the bribe had an affair with her. CBA and the Ministry of Justice denied this information.

Former MP Sawicka and the mayor of the town Hel, were caught red handed while taking a bribe in a ‘sting’ operation prepared by the CBA on October 1.
