Former Civic Platform MP Beata Sawicka released by police

08.11.2007

The Former Civic Platform (PO) MP Beata Sawicka, detained on corruption charges by the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) in Poznań on Tuesday following the expiry of her parliamentary immunity, is now free.

A court in Poznań overruled the prosecution’s motion for her arrest, deeming that police supervision and a ban on leaving the country would be sufficient security measures.

Beata Sawicka will have to report to a police station in Jelenia Góra (South-West Poland) once a week and surrender her passport. The court also deemed the former MP’s arrest on Tuesday as illegal and explained that the same person could not be detained on the same charges twice.

Sawicka had been stopped by CBA in October, but was immediately released under her parliamentary immunity.

The former PO MP left the court through a back door avoiding journalists.
