President Kaczyński loses aides

09.11.2007

Poland’s President Lech Kaczyński has dismissed his voluntary aides Nelly Rokita and Lena Cichocka-Dabkowska after legal advice.

Earlier, both ladies resigned from their posts after an intervention by the Chancellery of the new Polish Parliament.

“Legal office of the Sejm’s Chancellery informed us on Thursday that as of the following day we must resign from the voluntary advising for the president. We had no choice and resigned,” Cichocka-Dąbkowska said.

The expert's report revealed that performing even voluntary work as a presidential aide cannot be combined with the function of an MP.

Rokita and Cichocka-Dąbkowska were presidential aides in the rank of under-secretaries of state. After becoming MPs – in accordance with the constitutional requirements – they resigned from their functions and decided to work for the president voluntarily, without any emolument.

Rokita was advising the president in women’s issues and Cichocka dealt with the combatants.
