Donald Tusk nominated as prime minister

09.11.2007

President Lech Kaczynski has officially nominated Donald Tusk for the position of Polish prime minister, who now has two weeks to appoint a new government.

The nomination ceremony took place at the presidential palace in Warsaw on Friday at 3 p.m. and lasted only about one minute.

Donald Tusk collected a red file containing his nomination from the president’s hands.  Then the politicians shook hands before reporters’ cameras and disappeared behind a back door.  Their meeting behind closed doors is expected to last one hour.

The Civic Platform leader arrived at the ceremony as a “private individual”, as he himself put it, and will leave the presidential palace in a governmental limousine accompanied by officers from the Agency for Government Protection (BOR).
