Deputy health minister Bolesław Piecha from Law and Justice has submitted his resignation from the position following allegations of daily Dziennik on Monday that he had held private meetings with representatives of pharmaceutical companies to discuss the list of state-subsidised medicines and added an expensive drug to the list recently.
“He will only be deputy minister until today”, current health minister Ewa Kopacz (Civic Platform) has told Radio Zet.
After the daily’s publication, Piecha told TVN24 news channel that he had a clear conscience and was not afraid of the proceedings instigated by the Central anticorruption Bureau (ABW). Later he admitted to having lied by saying that he had not met the manufacturer of the drug in question.
Former health minister Marek Balicki is outraged by Piecha’s conduct.
"Minister Piecha is an old hand and he knew very well who he was meeting and what position he found himself in", Balicki told Polish Radio 3 on Wednesday morning.
