President Lech Kaczynski has appointed former foreign minister Anna Fotyga as Head of the Chancellery.
A former activist in the Solidarity movement, and close aid to Lech Kaczynski, Fotyga became the first woman to head the foreign ministry in Poland in the law and Justice government from May 2006 to November 2007.
The appointment come at a time of conflict between the President and Prime Minister over foreign policy, particularly relations with Russia.
