Henryk Stokłosa back in Poland

20.12.2007

Former senator Henryk Stokłosa, detained in Germany after an international arrest warrant was issued for him, is already in Poland.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw informed that it will bring 22 charges against him Thursday.

Stokłosa will be remanded in custody and is to meet the prosecutor on Thursday.

His wife, Anna Stokłosa, firmly states that her husband is innocent.

Stokłosa is allegedly connected to the scandal in the Ministry of Finance. He is suspected of securing tax exemptions worth millions of zlotys thanks to his connections with corrupt officials from the Finance Ministry and a judge from Poznań.

His legal adviser was formally charged and the company’s financial director arrested. Stokłosa might face up to 12 years imprisonment.

Stokłosa is known as the “king of meat products”, as he owns not only a meat-processing empire, but also the local press and radio in his area.

Stokłosa disappeared from Poland nine months ago, just when the police were about to detain him. (mo)
