Health minister, Ewa Kopacz, has criticized the state in which her predecessors had left the Ministry of Health.
"When we took over the ministry, we found an unfriendly and chaotic system, in which everything was apparently for free and health services were not accessible," said the minister. She explained that this is why she must concentrate on the most pressing matters instead of doing legislative work. She assured, however, that her department is working on long-term changes which will bring the Polish health service system closer to European standards.
Asked about the issue of salaries for health service employees, the minister answered that the pays in this sector will increase, but as a result of broader reforms. "I promise that in 2010 those doctors who will want to will earn eleven thousand zloty gross," she announced.
The minister also said that she is counting on young people and will try to do everything to make them stay in Poland. (mo)
