Thatcher ready to testify in Jaruzelski investigation?

23.05.2008

Margaret Thatcher is ready to help National Institute of Remembrance (IPN) in its investigations into the introduction of martial law in Poland in 1981.

But the IPN historians say that her knowledge is of minor importance.

"Her knowledge is marginal," said historian Antoni Dudek, "We are sceptical about what Lady Thatcher can tell us."

According to a recent court decision, IPN historians should fill in the gaps in their investigation against those responsible for introducing martial law in Poland.

The court stated that the historians should gather materials from archives abroad and hear new witnesses, such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Helmut Schmidt, Margaret Thatcher and ex-Jimmy carter aid Zbigniew Brzezinski.

The IPN lodged a complaint against the court's decision and until they receive a reply, the historians will not contact any of the mentioned parties. (mo)
