March for Life and Family in Warsaw

25.05.2008

Organisers claim four thousand people, police say less than a thousand, turned up for the third March for Family and Life through the streets of Warsaw, Sunday.

Supporters of conservative groups in Poland were demonstrating against what they see as a ‘demographic time bomb’ in Europe brought on by pro-abortion, gay and euthanasia policies in countries in the EU.

“Europe is a demographic Titanic waiting to happen, as a consequence of the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s,” said Slawomir Olejniczak of the Christian Culture Association, one of the organisers of the event - adding, however, that, “Poland is still a healthy bastion of the family.”

The march included many children who held up placards with slogans on them such as, “Mummy, Daddy, I want a brother,” accompanied by politicians such as Marek Jurek (pictured, left) from the fringe rightwing, conservative Polish Right party.
