PiS TV

17.09.2008

Poland’s opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party plans to set up its own internet TV channel - PiS TV - to fight, what they believe, is the widespread political bias on mainstream Polish television.

A makeshift television studio, where party broadcasts will be recorded for internet users, is to be set up in rooms allotted to the party at the parliament building.

"It's not going to be something elaborate. We'll just place a decoration with the PiS logo on the set to make the programme more interesting,” said Mariusz Kaminski, the parliamentary club's spokesman.

PiS Politicians also plan to set up a special internet site, where they will place only corrections and explanations to newspaper articles, radio and TV programmes, as well as statements by politicians from other parties. Kaminski said that the site is needed because corrections by PiS members are often not printed in newspapers and meet with little interest from the media.

The party has already been placing reports from press conferences and statements by their members on its webpage. The internet channel is also to include longer interviews with PiS MPs and live broadcasts. The channel is to be interactive, so internet users are to be able to ask questions to politicians. (mo)
