Piotr Stańczak just before he was murdered
The Pakistani government has officially confirmed the death of the Polish engineer Piotr Stanczak.
The man, kidnapped by the Taliban militants in September, was killed last Saturday because the Pakistani government refused to release Taliban prisoners. A spokesman for the militants refused to hand over the body of the slain engineer unless the government accepted their demands. The Polish government pledges to spare no effort in tracing the murders and prepares a special report concerning the case.
Foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski has announced a reward to all those who will help bring the perpetrators of the murder to court Pakistani Mullah Shah Abdul Aziz has offered his services to the Polish authorities in the efforts to recover the body of the Polish engineer. In this light the decision of the Speaker of the Polish Senate came as a surprise. Bogdan Borusewicz has called off a visit of the head of the Senate of Pakistan to Poland. Mohammedmian Soomro and a delegation of Pakistani Senators were to visit Poland this week.
