New law on security at stadiums

13.02.2009

Clubs can now tighten the screw directly on sports hooligans as hard as the prosecutor.

The new law adds to the list of existing preventive measures the possibility of introducing a stadium ban for those individual spectators found guilty of misconduct not only by the police and courts, but directly by the clubs concerned. It can be imposed for a period of up to two years and can be accompanied by hefty fines.

A novelty in the otherwise strict law aiming at increasing spectator security during mass participation events is the possibility of selling alcoholic beverages, mainly beer, on stadium premises. To date, such sales have been prohibited due to the number of incidents involving intoxicated fans. This liberal approach is definitely a controversial issue, having as many supporters as opponents.
