Kazimierz Kutz turns 80

16.02.2009

The renowned Polish film director and screenwriter, Kazimierz Kutz, turns 80 today.

A special event prepared for the occasion will take place at one of Warsaw’s theaters, featuring the presentation of a biography of the artist. The book by Aleksandra Klich is entitled Cały ten Kutz. Biografia niepokorna, which loosely translates to All that Kutz. An uncompromising biography. The film director himself claims the book reads like a crime novel:

“This book is written just like I would write it. It’s quite ruthless, and objective in many ways. If I had to sum it up, I would say the book is about a guy from Silesia, who has his own unpredictable ways of fighting for his independence and freedom, so as not to give in or self himself. What shocked me most was when I realized how many things I’ve done in my life – [I was] like a whirlwind.”

Screenings of movies directed by the artist will be taking place in Warsaw’s Muranów theater till Thursday, followed by another event held in tribute to the artist, at one of the theaters in Chorzów, southern Poland.

Kazimierz Kutz was born on 16 February 1929 in Szopienice, a then small town in Silesia, southern Poland. His most acclaimed movies include The Recidivist, Pearl in the Crown, Death as a Slice of Bread and Colonel Kwiatkowski.
