As recession grips Britain, and the number of homeless Polish migrants is on the rise, NGOs join forces to help the most vulnerable people.
The deepening recession in Britain is taking its toll on the Polish immigrants, as scores of them have slipped into abject poverty and homelessness. Polish Commissioner for Civil Rights Protection, Janusz Kochanowski, has said that an estimated 4,000 of them are living on the streets in London alone.
A special conference entitled “Safety net for the vulnerable migrants - who will provide it?” has recently been held in Warsaw, with the aim of discussing problems that Poles living in western EU countries may be faced with and ways of dealing with them. The event was held as part of the ongoing one-stop mobility shops project. The initiative is intended to facilitate migration experience for vulnerable people.
