Outdoor Cinema, a company which draws on the tradition of touring cinemas of the 1960s, has hit the road with 'Popieluszko, Freedom is Within Us', a feature film on the life, pastoral work and the murder of the Solidarity priest, Father Jerzy Popieluszko. The screenings are held in community centres, schools and churches in localities with small localities and rural areas.

The Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition brought no success for Polish musicians. First Prize went jointly to Luka Sulic from Croatia and Philip Higham. Polish music fans are looking forward to a recital by one of the world’s top tenors Placido Domingo. He is to appear in Lodz on 8 June in an event which will no doubt be a major promotion of the city of Lodz in its race for the European Cultural Capital in 2016. Domingo’s recital will come shortly after an important development in his career – a return to the Met forty years after his debut there. The current season at the Met, incidentally, is dubbed by some critics as the Polish season, with as many as five Polish singers appearing in leading parts there.
