Anna Fedorova from Ukraine and Mun Ji-Yeong from South Korea share First Prize at the‘Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam’ International Piano Competition. which has concluded in Bydgoszcz, northern Poland.
Poland’s Nikodem Wojciechowski won Second Prize and Li Peng of China received Third Prize. Nineteen young pianists, also from Belarus, Russia and Georgia, took part in the event. Ewa Rubinstein, one of Arthur Rubinstein’s daughters, was its honorary patron.
‘Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam’ was launched in 1993. It is a member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth in Munich.
Born in the Polish city of Lodz in 1887, Rubinstein gave his debut recital in Warsaw at the age of five and began extensive overseas tours in his teens.
He was 19 when he made his Carnegie Hall debut and became a legend in his lifetime. Rubinstein settled in the United States in 1939 and performed with almost undiminished power and skills up to his 90th birthday. He died in 1982 in Geneva..(mk)
