Celebrating Easter

In Poland Easter is a time of religious reflection coupled with traditions which are observed also by those who may be indifferent to religion.

Even though the latest data on Sunday church attendance in Poland speak of a four percent drop as compared to 2007,  this week the churches are full in this country. Many Poles take part in all of the religious services, starting from Palm Sunday to Easter Monday.

Good Friday, with its Adoration of the Cross, is naturally one of the most important days for Catholics, although, unlike in many other European countries, it is a normal working day.

How important are the various Easter traditions, such as the blessing of the food for the Easter Sunday breakfast? Do many Poles go to confession at this time of the year?
