Though no cases of swine flu have been detected in Poland yet, this country has undertaken various precautions to prevent its influx as the growing number of lives claimed by the disease in Mexico has been sending shockwaves around the world.

The swine flu risk is real, Poland’s deputy minister of the interior and administration Adam Rapacki declared Monday morning as the country’s health authorities and various services were getting ready for an emergency meeting this afternoon to discuss the prospect of the swine flue pandemic hitting the world. ‘We have set tasks for the services subordinated to the interior ministry – the border guards, the police force. The most important are tasks connected with the information campaign and preparations in the event of swine flu reaching Poland,’ he said.
There have been no worrying signals from Poland’s airports, but precautions have been taken to pin point passengers who may carry the infection in. Andrzej Wojtyla, Poland’s Chief Sanitary Inspector says passengers returning from Mexico, the United States and Canada are monitored. octor Pawel Grzesiowski from the National Medicines says Poles have to be well informed about swine flu and ways they can protect themselves against it. Doctor Grzesiowski says the situation in Poland is wholly under control today. The Polish government has taken all the necessary precautions.
The World Health Organization has warned that swine flu could become a pandemic and called for all nations to intensify surveillance.
