Polish Paths to Freedom

31.05.2009

A trilogy presenting Polish history through films opens in London on June 1st.

It is hosted by the Imperial War Museum, and organised in cooperation with the Polish History Museum in Warsaw. The trilogy shows Poland's turbulent history starting from 1939 up to 1989 when the Berlin wall collapsed and Poland started its path to democracy.

The third edition of the event is entitled ‘Sparks of Hope’ and commemorates the 20th anniversary of the collapse of communism and the frst free democratic elections in Poland. Some twenty documentary and feature films are to be shown during this year's event.

The first part of the event called 'First to Fight' took place in September 2008 and was devoted to WW II history, the 1939 invasion of Poland by the Nazis, the Polish struggle against the German occupant and the Soviet aggression. It also referred to the Polish participation on the western front and in the British forces.

The second part of the Polish Paths to Freedom held in London last year was entitled 'Behind the Iron Curtain' and showed the turbulent and unknown history of Poland after WWII and under communist rule. (ab)
