Opole song festival kicks off today

12.06.2009

The 46th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole starts 12 June at exactly 8:25 p.m.

Then at the stage will appear famous Polish actors who will sing songs of famous Polish rock groups.

The annual event is one of the most important  cultural happenings in Poland. The new debut songs and debut contest take place Friday. Eleven performers will compete for the Anna Jantar Award for the best debutant, named after the famous Polish singer.

The second day of the festival will be dedicated to the Superjedynki Competition - the winner will be chosen by the audience (e.g. public television viewers and RMF-FM radio listeners). The performers will compete in 5 categories: debut, artist, album, band and song of the year. At the end of the second day of the Opole Festival, leading Polish cabarets and stand-up comedians will perform.

The third day of the festival will be dedicated to the Superduets concert.

This is the last time the festival will take place in the most famous Polish open-air theater – the building is earmarked for demolition at the turn of June and July. The new theatre with 4000 seats is due to be ready at the beginning of 2011.

All the festival’s concerts between June 12-14 will be broadcast live by TVP. (gg/mmj)
