Poles in the EP

15.06.2009

Marek Siwiec

We interview Marek Siwiec, one of Poland’s seven leftist MEPs and one of the most experienced politicians among the 50-strong Polish representation.

The priorities facing Polish MEPs, the chances of Jerzy Buzek to be elected President of the European Parliament and the conditions on which the socialists will support the Polish candidate – these are some of the issues taken up in the interview.

Fifty four year-old Marek Siwiec has held various high-ranking posts in the Polish leftist party, the Presidential Chancellery during Aleksander Kwasniewski's presidency and the National Security Bureau. He will serve in the European Parliament for a second term.
