Poland’s many thousands of fans of Michael Jackson were devastated to learn of the King of Pop’s death, aged just 50 years old, this morning.

“He was a king, an extraordinary talent but at the same time a very sensitive person,” recalls former president Aleksander Kwasniewski, who met Jackson when he played a concert in Warsaw in 1996.

So impressed by Poland was the singer, dancer and songwriter that he announced he wanted to, “buy a castle in the beautiful country” and open a ‘Michael Jackson Wonderland’ theme park in Warsaw. Talks between his people and the then mayor of Warsaw, Pawel Piskorski went ahead.

The investment, thought to be as much as 500 million euros, eventually fell through in 2000 when a suitable site for the theme park could not be found and Jackson’s financial situation worsened. (pg)
