Poland’s development assistance

30.06.2009

In terms of scope, Polish assistance projects for other countries may seem modest. Yet, they are an important part of Polish foreign policy.

Slawek Szefs reports

This year Poland will spend around 4 million US dollars on development assistance. This covers some 300 projects which are implemented by the central government agencies, NGOs, Polish embassies as well as through multilateral channels.  Most of them are directed to Poland’s Eastern neighbours – Belarus and Ukraine. Moldova, Georgia and Afghanistan also belong to major  recipients of Polish aid.

Polish projects range from the strengthening of local governments and civil society institutions to support for independent media, practical skills workshops and arts classes for children and the development of farm tourism.
