Mazury, commonly referred to as the Thousand Lakes District of north-eastern Poland, and Bialowieza, a fine example of  vast Primaeval forest, made their way to the group of top 77 entrants competing for the prestigious titles of new wonders of the world of Nature.

The Internet voting had been stopped by midnight on Tuesday, but it was only on Thursday that the results had been officially published. The delay was due to the exorbitant number of votes cast by nature lovers worldwide till the very last moment
