On the pilgrims’ trail

05.08.2009

Around 100, 000 people are expected at the Black Madonna shrine in Czestochowa on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Michal Kubicki reports

Almost 4,000 people take part in the Warsaw Student Pilgrimage which left for Czestochowa early in the morning. It is one or some 150 groups which are on their way to the shrine or are to set out later this week. Some of the groups number twice as many pilgrims, some only a few dozen.  The longest pilgrimage, from Hel Peninsula, is 640 kilometers long and takes almost three weeks to complete.

There are groups of disabled people and soldiers, of long-distance runners, cyclists and even horse riders. Thanks to the special website the pilgrims’ family members and friends can follow their progress, see how many kilometers they have covered, listen to the homilies and prayers, while the pilgrims can use their mobiles to share their impressions on the website.
