The Wawel Castle in Krakow
Several dozen Polish cultural institutions, including museums, historical palaces and an orchestra will benefit from 490 million euro granted to this country by the European Fund of Regional Development.

All in all, several dozen cultural institutions in Poland received the funds, including the Wawel Castle in Krakow as well as the Branicki Palace in Wilanow and the European Cultural Center to be built in the north-eastern city of Bialystok. The largest amount of 207 million euro was granted for the construction of the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw - the L-shaped building on the Vistula river to open in 2010 which will house exhibition halls, a conference center and laboratories - as well as 143 million for the construction of the National Forum of Music in the western city of Wroclaw.
Among the biggest beneficiaries is also the National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio in Katowice. 122 million euro has been allocated for the construction of its new headquarters. The facility be built at the site of a former coal mine is to be completed by 2013.
