Polish home schoolers!

12.08.2009

Home schooling is legal in Poland, as long as you enroll your kids at a public or private school and teach the minimum program to them.

Joanna Najfeld reports

There is an estimated number of 40 home schooling families in Poland, and they vary a lot. Some are big Christian families, others are non-believers, with only one or two kids. Some are rich and can afford one parent staying at home, others fight every month to make ends meet. But they all consciously chose home education for their kids.

Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly at all, many Polish home schooling parents are teachers themselves. They are more confident taking the responsibility for the kids' education. Many turn to home schooling after first-hand experience with Polish school system and all its problems: violence, drugs, shortage of finances, overpopulated classes, lack of discipline and order.

Joanna Najfeld visited one home schooling family and they showed her around their Ranch - a home and a school for their five kids.
