A year ago, the United States and Poland signed a treaty on locating elements of the American missile defense shield on Polish soil, amidst strong opposition from Russia which feared the system might pose a threat to its interests. A year and one American presidential election later, Washigton's enthusiasm for the project has turned luke warm.
