As 2,500 participants gathered in Stockholm for another edition of the World Water Week, experts in Poland are alarming - this country is facing a shortage of drinking water.
Danuta Isler reports
According to UN statistics, the resources of drinking water around the world amount to less than 0,1% with water pollution contributing more and more to its decrease. In Poland the situation is not that dire yet but, as Mira Stanislawska-Meysztowicz, the founder of "Our Earth" Foundation points out, water supplies are running short. Also, Poland is one of European countries where the amount of drinking water availbale per single inhabitant is one of the lowest on the continent. The situation is the worst during summer droughts.
Established 1991, the World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual meeting place for the planet’s most urgent water-related issues. The theme for this year's edition is "Responding to Global Changes: Accessing Water for the Common Good". More information can be found at: www.worldwaterweek.org.
