Krynica Economic Forum opens

09.09.2009

The 19  Krynica Economic Forum opens today in southern Poland, under the theme of European Solidarity 20 years after the revolution.

The organiser of the event – known as the “Polish Davos” is the Institute for Eastern Studies, which is expecting over 1,900 participants from across the world, including politicians, academics, business people, NGO activists and journalists.

Zygmunt Berdychowski, head of the Economic Forum Programme Council has stated that the event will be centered on the question of European Solidarity 20 years after the democratic transitions in Europe:

"On the European arena, we must predominantly discuss whether today, 20 years after the changes, Europeans are still willing to speak enthusiastically about the role of trade unions, or whether today, five years after EU expansion, Europeans still unconditionally accept the fact that expansion should translate into redistribution."

The event encompasses 130 debates on topics such as energy security, macroeconomics, business, science and culture. (ab/pg)
