Poles have embraced more conservative and right-wing views in the past two years. According to a survey conducted by the CBOS public opinion research centre, support for a ban on abortion has risen, as has approval for vetting of persons holding important public posts and for energetic combating of crime.

The survey, which CBOS pollsters conducted in August and September, indicates that Poles have shifted to the right and returned to views which prevailed in 2005, when the now biggest opposition party, conservative Law and Justice, came to power.
Support for a crack down on crime has risen by 13 percent , with over 54 percent of Poles ready to sacrifice their civic liberties in the process. A total ban on abortion is approved by 44 percent of those polled, seven percent more than two years ago. Sixty five percent believe that people holding public posts should present declarations that they did not collaborate with the communist-era security police.
