Energy Saving Forum in Warsaw

28.10.2009

Europe is wasting at least 20 percent of its energy due to inefficiency. One of the goals set by the EU climate and energy package, which became a law last June, is to tap this potential.

Poland is ready for action to save energy, experts attending the First International Energy Saving Forum say. The Polish government has approved a long-term energy policy and the energy efficiency bill is to be passed by the parliament shortly. The bill provides for the implementation of the White Certificates, a system of incentives encouraging energy saving. Poland will be the fourth European country to adopt it.

The biggest savings can be made in transport – through improved organization, and in the building sector, says Professor Krzysztof Zmijewski, an energy expert and the brain behind the Warsaw Forum. A lot of energy can be saved thanks to better thermal insulation and better energy management as well as thermo-refurbishing of the old housing stock, which is in a very poor condition in Poland.
