Chopin is just one of the composers that will be performed in the 5th Festival of Polish Music, which will bring a week-long feast for classical music lovers both in Poland and abroad.
Report by John Beauchamp
With performances ranging from Szymanowski’s opera King Roger to Schaeffer’s Electronic Mass for boys choir and tape, a whole spectrum of Polish composition throughout the ages is presented in Krakow.
One of the main highlights of the festival is the arrival of Croatian pianist Ivo Pogorelić, his first time playing in Poland since his, some say, scandalous appearance at the International Chopin Competition almost 30 years ago, when he did not qualify to the final even though he was the favourite. He is to play Chopin’s 2nd Piano Concerto, the piece he had prepared for the competition back in 1980.
The Festival of Polish Music begins in Krakow on the 9th November and organised in part by Polish Radio. More information can be found here.
