Witches of Nysa

12.11.2009

Stones of shame, the iron maiden, a chair with sharp spikes and other instruments of torture are on show in the Witches Hall at the city museum in Nysa, southern Poland.

Ela Krajewska reports.

The newly opened exhibition is a part of the Witches Trail, laid down by the local authorities together with their Czech counterparts, documenting a dark chapter in the violent and bloodthirsty Middle Ages.

The trail, designed for cyclists, takes tourists to sites connected with witch hunts on both sides of the border. It cost almost 400,000 euros to build, 85 percent of which came from EU coffers.
