Polish police have found the ‘Arbeit macht frei’ sign stolen from the entrance gate to the Auschwitz camp and arrested five suspects.

The theft of the five metre long metal sign, which is probably one of the most important symbols of 20th-century history, came as a shock to all Poles and sparked an outrage from foreign politicians. Three days after the theft, the sign was recovered near the town of Toruń, some 500 kilometers from the Auschwitz site.
