Theoretically, open-air events in Poland are off-limits to alcohol. Theoretically, there are gates, searches and security people confiscating even your unopened bottle of cola… but in reality the aftermath of mass events is usually a battlefield. The city of Gdansk however has been happily putting into effect an initiative that has people binning their bottles.

With the echoes of Christmas and New Year cheer long faded, the Gdansk authorities have just formally presented some prizes that have literally come out of a bottle, at a ceremony held in a waste recycling plant.
