Euro parliament gives plane crash tribute

The European Parliament is paying a tribute to the victims of the Smolensk plane crash tragedy today.

 

The EP is holding a special screening of the movie Katyń by Andrzej Wajda at 19:00 CET following the death of President Lech Kaczyński and 95 others in Saturday's plane crash.

 

A commemoration mass was scheduled for 14:00 hrs in the Eglise du Saint Sacrement along with the opening of the "Katyń. Massacre. Politics. Morality" exhibition prepared by the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU and the Polish delegation to NATO under the honorary patronage of the president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek.

 

Katyń is the 2007 Polish film describing the 1940 Katyń massacre of 22,000 Polish officers by the Soviet NKVD. The film was first shown at the European Parliament on 4 June 2009 to unprecedented attention. The screening is open to all interested and the movie will be shown again tomorrow.

 

A book of condolences is to be displayed there for signatures as well. (di)
