Last president-in-exile’s body comes home to rest

15.04.2010

The body of Poland’s last president-in-exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski has arrived in Warsaw.

Moscow bid him farewell with honours befitting a president after he died in Saturday’s plane crash and he was welcomed with a full military salute in Warsaw.

From July 1989 to December 1990 Kaczorowski, based in London, was Poland’s last president-in-exile until he handed over the presidential insignia to Lech Walesa after Poland regained its full independence from the Soviet Union.

His coffin will be placed in the Belweder Palace for public viewing.
