Human trafficking in Poland

30.06.2010

Poland continues to have one of the worst records as far as human trafficking is concerned with experts and NGOs pointing to the fact that this country has developed a triple function in the trafficking business as a country of origin, a transit country and country of destination at the same time.

Danuta Isler reports

There are no official statistics available so it is difficult to evaluate the exact scale of the phenomenon. Experts estimate that several hundred persons are trafficked a year to and from Poland. They are also unanimous that it may be the tip of the iceberg.

Women are among the most vulnerable victims being trafficked mainly for sexual exploitaiton. They are at a bigger risk due to their weaker economic and social status in their countries of origin. Children are equally vulnerable victims being trafficked for illegal adoption, forced prostitution and pornography, begging and removal of organs.
