The Polish and Russian governments should take responsibility for the Smolensk air disaster and PM Donald Tusk should be dismissed, Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski has told Polish Radio.

Kaczynski criticized the Polish government for being infective and weak with Russia regarding the investigation into the death of his twin brother President Lech Kaczynski.

“Either Russian or Polish governments, or both of them, should take moral responsibility for the Smolensk air disaster,” he said, adding, “A withdrawal from politics should be the most severe punishment,” said Kaczynski.

“The government should make [the investigation] into an international issue. Instead, it doesn’t do anything and pretends that relations between Poland and Russia are continuing to improve,” said Kaczynski.

The Law and Justice leader claims that it will be difficult to find the truth about causes of the 10 April Smolensk crash. “Poland’s Prosecutor’s Office has to rely on what it receives from Russian investigators. The key is to extract as much information as possible form Russia,” said Kaczynski.

The Law and Justice leader claims that President Lech Kaczynski’s visit to Katyn was not protected enough because PM Tusk played a game with Russia’s PM Vladimir Putin. “Tusk played with fire and set the house on fire,” said Kaczynski.

In Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s opinion, the Polish pilots on board the doomed TU 154 should not be blamed for the crash as there is no evidence to support the claims.

Kaczynski also refused to believe that his twin brother tried to force the pilots to land in spite of bad weather, as has been claimed. “Pilots must have been misled. I absolutely disagree with the idea that anyone put pressure on them. I knew my brother and he would not give an order to land if it was dangerous,” said Kaczynski. (mg/pg)
