Poland to issue passports with biometric data
06.08.2005
As of August 2006 Poland will start issuing new passports. In accordance with EU regulations the new documents will have to contain biometric data. Initially that will consist only of a digital photograph of a face, fingerprints will be added from 2008. The new passports are the result of a regulation of the European Council on the safety standards of ID documents which entered into force in February. According to Marek Gieorgica, spokesman of the ministry of internal affairs and administration, a special program is currently underway testing technical equipment and procedures connected with the introduction of new passports in Poland.
