The Polish quartet “Feel” has won two main awards at the International Song Festival in Sopot, the popular Baltic summer resort.
Halina Bykowska reports from Sopot
The song “It’s Dark Already”, performed by Feel, received a standing ovation. No wonder that the jury decided to grant the main award, the Amber Nightingale for that song.
And the public gave its award, the Audience Nightingale for the quartet “Feel” too. The song “It`s Dark Already” has immediately become a musical hit.
The leader of the quartet, Piotr Kupicha, who had been singing and playing a guitar, was overcome with joy.”The main awards are a great surprise to my colleagues and me” – he admitted.
“It happened for the first time in the 44-year-lomng history of the international Sopot festival that two main awards were given to only one winner” – he pointed out.
The winners come from Katowice, the city in southern Poland. The musical group “Feel” was organized in May 2005 by Piotr Kupicha, who is the gifted composer, vocalist and guitarist. He also writes lyric to his songs.
Some 20 Polish and foreign music stars took part in the competition during the three-day-long festival. During the first day the audience admired the concert given by Norah Jones, the American popular singer, who also played a guitar and a piano.
She was a special guest of the festival and did not take part in the competition. After the concert some critics believed that many Polish singers had quite a long distance to cover to be as good as Norah Jones was.
But the performance of the awarded song “It`s Dark Already” is the best proof to the fact that it`s better to wait for the decision of the jury and the audience first and to give opinions afterwards.
