Simon Mol finally charged in HIV case

15.12.2007

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw charged Cameroonian Simon Mol with infecting 12 women with HIV and illegal possession of a weapon.

The 12 charges concern infecting women with a serious, incurable disease; a 13th charge is of illegal possession of a weapon – a Chinese nunchaku.

The Cameroonian, a well-know person on Polish media, became infamous last year, when a woman reported to the District Police Headquarters in Żoliborz, Warsaw, and claimed that Mol had infected her with HIV.

After a two months investigation, Moll was detained in January this year. He claimed he knew nothing of his disease, which later, say media reports, turned out to be not true.

All his victims are young and educated. He always approached the women by asking for help with translating the articles he wrote or with taking care of some official matter. The women he infected claim that he acted with premeditation – each time they wanted to use protection, he accused them of racism.

Simon Mol is a writer and journalist from Cameroon; he came to Poland in 1999, claiming that he was a political refugee. Press investigations claim that he faked the heroic elements of his life to get that status. (mo)
