15.01.2008

Polish prosecution to investigate financial irregularities of the controversial Radio Maryja foundation’s EU fund application.

The ministry of environment has filed notification with the prosecution of suspected irregularities that occurred while preparing application for EU funds for the director of Radio Maryja, Father Tadeusz Rydzyk’s foundation Lux Veritatis, informs the Polish Radio Information Agency (IAR).

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has granted Father Rydzyk’s foundation 27 million zlotys to conduct a search for thermal energy sources near Toruń (North Poland).

Elżbieta Strucka, environment ministry spokesperson has informed that the agreement signed by the foundation has legal faults, including irregularities and discrepancies regarding dates and modifications in the appendices.  She has also alleged that some documentation may have been forged.

The agreement between the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Lux Veritatis was concluded in the form of a civil-law contract, so it is legally binding in spite of the alleged legal faults, informs IAR. (mj)
