The Round Table legend looses its charm, writes RZECZPOSPOLITA. On the front page, the paper presents an opinion poll, according to which more and more Poles are disappointed with the outcome of the Round Table talks, in which they had put so much trust and hope. Critics of the Round Table increasingly often point out that the negotiations were a kind of trade between communists and some part of the opposition, as a result of which communists secured state property for themselves and retained unwarranted amounts of direct and indirect power in Poland's public life. "Many people are outraged at how swiftly former communists moved from politics to business, which was made easier by the Round Table negotiations," professor Jadwiga Staniszkis told RZECZPOSPOLITA daily.

Lech Wałęsa was "the great absent one" at yesterday's Round Table anniversary at the Polish Parliament, writes DZIENNIK. He accepted the invitation, but did not show up. "I feel disgust at this sort of events," Wałęsa explained, adding that he felt a sort of hangover after the Round Table. The conference was seriously biased towards the left and ex-communists, reports DZIENNIK daily. Today, alternative celebrations are held at the headquarters of Poland's president, Lech Kaczyński.

Women who use hormonal therapy are twice as much prone to breast cancer than women who refrain from taking hormones, writes RZECZPOSPOLITA on its science pages. The combination of estrogen and progesterone causes breast cancer and we have strong evidence to support that, says Marcia Stefanick of Stanford University quoted in RZECZPOSPOLITA. It is estimated that about half a million Polish women undergo such a risky hormonal therapy after menopause, says RZECZPOSPOLITA.

Every five year old has the right to day care, says the government in the new education law. There are not enough places at kindergartens, reply local governments. GAZETA WYBORCZA looks at the situation of kindergartens which, as of September this year, will have to accept every child, whose parents choose to send him there. Kindergartens are not prepared to cater for so many kids, suggests the paper.
