The Belarussian Television showed last night Andrzej Wajda’s Katyń. The screening started at midnight. The film had its TV premiere in Belarus on 18 April, the day of the funeral of the Polish presidential couple, at 3.30 p.m.
According to Belarussion internauts, the fragment of the film which speaks of two invasions of Poland in September 1939, by Nazi Germany on 1 September and by the Soviet Union 17 days later, was deleted by the censors. The internauts were also shocked to see the commercials preceding the scene of the execution of Polish officers.
Earlier this month, the Belarussian Academy of Art conferred on Andrzej Wajda its honorary doctorate. The date of the presentation ceremony has not yet been announced. (mk)
