One of Poland’s leading string quartets – the Silesian Quartet from Katowice – is billed today at the ‘Wall to Wall Behind the Wall’ music marathon in New York’s Symphony Space.
The 12-hour event features music from Central and Eastern Europe from the end of World War One to the collapse of communism. The Silesian Quartet presents a selection of works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Aleksander Tansman, Grażyna Bacewicz, Andrzej Krzanowski and Szymon Laks.
In addition to prominent American performers, featured musicians include the Chamber Orchestra of the Petersburg Philharmonic, the Armenian pianist and composer Artur Avanesov and the Romanian jazz vocalist Maria Raducanu. (mk)
