• Chopin dance show premieres in Shanghai
  • 23.05.2010

“Let’s dance to Chopin” has had its premiere performance at the Polish stand at the Expo currently ongoing in Shanghai, to great acclaim from Chinese spectators.

The work is an arrangement of Chopin pieces for jazz quintet and includes themes from the composer’s Sonata in B minor op. 58. The performance was directed by Janusz Stoklosa, with choreography arranged for the 12 dancers by his daughter Maria.

The idea of the performance was to promote Chopin as inspiration for dancers, and is the brainchild of Andrzej Sulek, the director of the National Chopin Institute.

“It is an unprecedented performance,” boasts Sulek, adding that it is “full of avant-garde dance routines, with live multimedia and light shows.” (jb)
