A three-day event in tribute to Fryderyk Chopin and Artur Rubinstein opens in Paris with an exhibition of portraits and photographs of the legendary pianist.
Most of the photos are by Ewa Rubinstein, one of Artur Rubinstein’s daughters.
Tomorrow, Polish pianist Marek Drewnowski will appear at the prestigious Salle Gaveau in Chopin’s Concerto in F minor. He will also accompany the soprano Joanna Woś in a selection of Chopin’s songs and Elvira’s aria from Bellini’s I Puritani, one of Chopin’s favourite operas.
One of the main organizers of the event is the Artur Rubinstein Foundation in Łodz, the pianist’s birthplace. Its president, Wojciech Grochowalski, recalls that Rubinstein loved France and was admired by the Parisians. Like Chopin, he spent almost a half of his life in the French capital. (mk)
